The Federal Territory of Putrajaya is the federal administrative centre of Malaysia. It has a unique location, being enclaved within the Sepang district in Selangor. It is also adjacent to Cyberjaya, a key town in the Multimedia Super Corridor in Malaysia. The Multimedia Super Corridor is a Special Economic Zone and high-technology business district, where many multinational companies and data centres are located.

The population is mainly made up of government servants, as most of Malaysia’s government ministries are located at Putrajaya. Putrajaya is a well-planned township, marked with stunning architecture, open spaces, and wide boulevards. The traffic flow is relatively smooth in most areas. However, there have been cases of traffic congestions previously reported at three busy intersections during peak hours. These three intersections are located at Lebuh Wawasan near Precinct 8, the area near the Attorney-General’s Chambers in Precinct 4, and the entrance to Kampung Dato’ Abu Bakar Baginda. However, traffic police have since been stationed at these areas to ease traffic congestion.

When did the construction of the new stadium in Putrajaya begin?

Construction of the new stadium involved the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), as well as FIFA, which supported construction with funding from FIFA Forward program. Construction opening ceremony for the new stadium took place on October 17, 2022, with the attendance of presidents of AFC (Salman bin Ibrahim Al Khalifa) and FIFA (Gianni Infantino). The exact date of commissioning has not yet been announced.

What will AFC Stadium in Putrajaya be like?

New football stadium will have a capacity of 10,000 spectators. Stands, divided into two tiers, will be located along the pitch, on both sides. A roof will appear above the auditorium, which will also cover spaces behind goals. The whole will create a coherent, closed form. This facility will include offices and an underground car park.

The venue will be used for various matches and tournaments, and can also be used by Malaysian national team or local clubs, including for international matches. Stadium will be conveniently located within walking distance of the international airport and AFC headquarters, located in Bukit Jalil, is 30 km away.
